Highlights
- Freeze Flat
Lansinoh milk bags freeze flat, and hence they take very minimum space in the freezer. This is especially useful if you store your EBM stash in a shared freezer together with your other frozen food.
Look at the picture below and see how slim the milk bag is compared to a standard bottle. You can put up to 10 Lansinoh milk bag in this one take-away container. That mean
I used to store my EBM stash in glass bottles, and I need half of my freezer space to house around 266 oz of breast milk. If I were to use Lansinoh milk bags and filling up to 4 oz per bag, I would on;y need approximate one third of my freezer space to store them. Extra space for some freezer meals!
- Double zipper to minimize leakage
Lansinoh milk bag comes with a double zipper that is handy to minimize the amount of milk leaking (during thawing) or leaking when you try to remove as much as air f
- Perfect size
Lansinoh milk bags hold 6 oz of breast milk, which is just nice for a baby’s single serving. I myself would store only 4 oz in each bag, knowing that my baby is not a heavy drinker, but you may want to adjust how much you are storing depending on how much your baby drinks in a single feeding.
While I haven’t tried by myself, several moms have reported that they can store up to 7 oz, even though the marking is only up to 6 oz. This is great if you prefer to store more in each
4. Self standing (no holding required)
I used to use another brand of milk bag, which, although it is supposed to be self-standing, but not stable enough to let it stand by itself. So, I needed to put the milk bag inside a tall glass whenever I need to pour milk into the bag.
Lansinoh is different. I love that my Lansinoh bag can stand firmly by itself. This makes pouring from bottle (after pumping) to the bag is less stressful and quicker to do.
5.Easy to pour
Lansinoh milk bag is equipped with easy to pour design, such that you can pour milk from the bag to the feeding bottle easily. Though I don’t really understand how this design works, but I noticed that pouring with Lansinoh bag is definitely easier than the other brand that I used before.
- Tissue style dispenser
I love Lansinoh tissue-style dispenser, which houses the not-yet-used milk bags. Pulling only one milk bag becomes easy and I love that my spare milk bags are stored nicely inside the dispenser.
- Value for money and widely available
This is one of the biggest advantages of Lansinoh milk bags. They are fairly cheap (less than 2.5 cents per bag if you buy the 100-count package), which is much cheaper than Medela milk bags.
They are also widely available, both in online and retail stores. So, whenever you need a new package of milk bags, you can get it very quickly.
Cons
Having said all the benefits, Lansinoh milk bag is not perfect either. Here are some common complaints about it:
- Some time leaks
Ugh, who wants to have a leaky milk bag? Noone! I personally haven’t had this issue before with Lansinoh, but several moms reported leaky bags especially during thawing.
Here are some tips to prevent milk leakage from your Lansioh bag and save your precious milk:
- When you store in the freezer, put several milk bags inside a ziplock to prevent freezer burn.
- Handle carefully. If you drop the milk bags while it is frozen, you may accidentally tear the side seams of the milk bag. So be careful not to drop the frozen bags too hard.
- During thawing, put your milk bag inside another clean container to catch any possible leaks. By doing this way, you won’t loose your precious expressed milk.
- Cannot pump directly to bag or cannot feed directly from this bag.
Lansinoh milk bags are only meant for storing. They are great for saving space. But they are not meant for direct pumping or feeding. If you want to have a milk bag to pump, store, and feed, I would recommend you to check Kiinde breastfeeding kit instead.
My Final Thought
Having weighed all the pros and cons, I am still convinced that Lansinoh milk bag is the BEST breast milk storage bag in the market and I would definitely recommend it to any pumping moms out there.

I have been using these bags for the last 6 months. A couple months ago when I started thawing my frozen milk I had some issues with the bags breaking. They were frozen flat. I am extremely upset today because I had a bag that I put in the fridge at work and it tore open and I lost the entire bag. It went all over my cooler and the fridge. I am highly unsatisfied with the quality of this product..

Hi Kim,
I am so sorry you are not satisfied with this product. I myself haven’t experienced leak so far. Hopefully, it is a bad batch and Lansinoh should take a good note of this.
Perhaps next time, just for a precaution, put the bag inside another container to catch some leaks (just in case).

I love these bags! I use the Avent Comfort manual pump and I am able to pull the bags over the pump to pump directly into the bag.
Thank you for your helpful reviews!

Hi Catherine,
So glad that you love this breast milk bags. I’ve heard some negative reviews about it and hopefully those are bad batches from Lansinoh.

Hi! Is there a technique to properly read the amount of milk in the bag? They have adapters so you can pump directly into the bag now, but I’m wary of not knowing how much I pumped into the bag. I noticed that the amount that the bag reads is usually more than the amount listed on the bottle, and the reading changes if you open the bottom more or less… Thanks!
Rina says
Hi, unfortunately I don’t know.
Personally, I still prefer pumping to bottle because I usually combine the pumping yield at the end of the day
BL says
Hi Rina, may I know what were the glass bottles you used that were safe for freezing?
Rina says
Hi,
I got mine from a fellow friend, I totally forgot what brand it was. But you can browse online, there are some options available such as this glass baby bottle. I would personally choose the 4-oz size or slightly smaller to store in the freezer.
