The Difference Between Spectra S1 and Spectra S2
Spectra S1 and S2 have very similar specifications.
Both of them have exactly the same dimensions.
Functionality-wise, they are exactly the same. With either Spectra S1 and S2, you can control the the suction strength and cycle speed independently.
The MAIN DIFFERENCE is just Spectra S1 has a built-in battery that lasts for 3 hours (if fully charged) while Spectra S2 does not.
As a result of this: Spectra s1 is much more portable than Spectra S2. You don't need to find a power outlet whenever you want to pump. Basically you can pump everywhere.
Additionally, the battery makes Spectra S1 slightly heavier than Spectra S2.
And finally, of course, this explains the price difference between Spectra S1 and S2. Spectra S1 is slightly more expensive due to its built-in battery.
Here’s a comparison table to summarize their differences.
Now.., the question is..
Should I get Spectra S1 or Spectra S2?
First of all, if your insurance covers breast pump, check if they cover Spectra S2 breast pump. I know a lot of insurance companies list Spectra S2 as one of their breast pumps.
Next, if you need to buy either of them, consider this.
+ Do you need the ultimate portability, dislike the need of finding power outlets everywhere? Perhaps you don’t have a dedicated place to pump, need to be able to pump while traveling or on the go.
In that case, Spectra S1 is best for you.
+ Now, if budget does matter and you are okay being tied to a power source every time you pump, then Spectra S2 is a good choice.

My personal Opinion
I have a dedicated space to pump in my workplace.
I don’t need to pump everywhere while traveling.
However, I truly enjoy the portability of Spectra S1.
+ Having a built in battery that lasts for 3 hours means I only need to charge it every other day.
Note that even during low-battery moment, Spectra S1’s suction strength keeps going strong, unlike other breast pump brand who easily looses suction once the battery is nearing empty).
+ I don’t need to spend the extra 5 seconds to plug in my pump to the power outlet. One less step for my pumping routine. Honestly, when you are pumping at work and in a hurry, every single second does matter.
That’s why I would strongly recommend choosing Spectra S1 over Spectra S2, as long as the budget permits. You won’t be disappointed.

However, if you really cannot afford Spectra S1 due to limited budget, you may opt to use a 'power bank' to make Spectra S2 more portable. Do note, choose the one with a connector pin and 12V output, like this power bank . Several moms have had success using this to power up their Spectra S2.

Other Moms' Review
Still not convinced yet? I’ve compiled some other moms’ comment on why they choose Spectra S1 breast pump:
"I’d definitely choose Spectra S1. In my one year of exclusive pumping, I’ve found a lot of parenting rooms without power points. I also pump in the car a lot and it’s very convenient not to be plugged in somewhere."
"I regretted not buying Spectra S1 when suddenly we had a power outtage!! You don’t think about it until it happened and you wish there’s a battery inside!"
"I bought an S1 and it was the best decision ever. With a hands free bra on, you can pump while making a toast or simply check the baby. I would 100% recommend Spectra S1 for convenience."
So, what do you think? Would you choose Spectra S1 or Spectra S2?
